Steps You Can Take

Due to Covid-19, foreclosures and evictions for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and HUD mortgage loans are suspended through June 30, 2021.

While this is good news, it is very important to get in touch with your loan service provider as soon as possible when you start having trouble making your house payment. They can help you come up with a plan to stay out of foreclosure. The sooner you contact them, the more options they have availabale to help you keep your home.

Next, find out if you are eligible to refinance your home through the Making Home Affordable program: .  Your service provider will be able to help you with this.

You will need to obtain foreclosure prevention, financial counseling and possible legal advice and representation.  One option is through the Homeownership Preservation Program, which is sponsored by the New Mexico Attorney General's office.  The program is a statewide effort to provide information and resources to New Mexico homeowners who are at risk of losing their homes to foreclosure.  The link and hotline number below will provide the assistance in assigning your case to one of the foreclosure prevention counseling agencies located in New Mexico.

Be careful not to be taken in by “foreclosure prevention” scam artists. Be sure to work through your loan servicer.
