Steps you can take

In these tough economic times, many people are having a harder time making their mortgage payments. If you find yourself in that situation, there are several steps you should take.

First, contact your loan service provider. They can help you come up with a plan to stay out of foreclosure. Don’t wait! The sooner you call, the better.

Next, find out if you are eligible to refinance your home through one of the new stimulus package programs, Making Home Affordable.  Your service provider will be able to help you with this, or you can go to our Making Home Affordable link.

Finally, get some foreclosure prevention and financial counseling. The MFA works with two organizations:

  • The United South Broadway Corporation
    505-764-8867

  • ILRC Housing Division (Previously HOME NM)
    505-266-5022
Be careful not to be taken in by “foreclosure prevention” scam artists. Be sure to work through your loan servicer.
